          Aviation Information Systems

The Company is a global leader in aviation information systems and products that promote airspace safety and operational efficiency, while reducing costs through automation.

??The Company has delivered advanced solutions to the aviation industry for more than 30 years, addressing airline logistics and operations, national air traffic control and airspace management, instrument flight procedures, terminal procedures, and flight efficiency for military and civil aviation markets. Government and commercial organizations around the world depend on the Company for accuracy, innovation, and safety.

?The Company's technology automates the design, generation, and maintenance of aviation information to a high level of sophistication. ?Customers can generate and maintain their flight-critical information in a fraction of the time and effort that is required using traditional methods.

MDA's data driven solutions enable on-demand aeronautical charting and speed the creation or modification of flight procedures.

MDA's Global Procedure Designer (GPD) and Automated Charting and Encoding (ACE) bring disruptive innovation and create a new reference in the flight procedure design and aeronautical charting domains.

          Global Procedure Designer

?The Company’s Global Procedure Designer (GPD) has unique capabilities that safely reduce the costs of designing and maintaining instrument flight procedures. Evaluated and selected by the U.S. Air Force for its safety, usability, and productivity, GPD is currently in use by more than 200 design specialists operating at over 100 locations around the world.

GPD-generated flight procedures have the potential to reduce fuel burn, cut emissions, and improve airspace capacity, efficiency, and safety.

Safety: GPD is backed by a certification regime of more than 50,000 test cases explicitly testing every one of the nearly 14,000 criteria statements in TERPS, PANS-OPS, and NATO.

Usability: GPD is a Windows?-based expert system designed and built explicitly to support procedure designers and their workflow, with local databases of aeronautical and geospatial data for their specific area of interest. GPD includes an integrated Esri? GIS for data and design visualization, using a comprehensive range of raster and vector map overlays.

Productivity: GPD includes powerful features targeted directly at improving productivity in the procedure maintenance phase that typically represents up to 80% of total life cycle costs.

          Automated Charting and Encoding

??The Company's Automated Charting and Encoding (ACE) solution automatically transforms digital flight procedures into interactive, publication-quality aeronautical charts. Designed by aeronautical charting and encoding experts, ACE transforms operations through a dramatic reduction in the time and cost required to generate aeronautical charts and ARINC encodings. The speed, simplicity and power of ACE were drivers in the U.S. Department of Defense decision to implement it as the standard for automated aeronautical chart generation.

Changing the manually-intensive Flight Information Publication (FLIP) paradigm with automatic generation of interactive digital content targeted for use on mobile devices, ACE delivers some important advantages over traditional processes and outputs:

Agility: ACE generates chart products in as little as a few seconds directly from source data, without human intervention. If the underlying aeronautical data changes, the product can be very rapidly regenerated and redistributed to end-users.

Configurability: ACE has ability to generate and save multiple chart formats as standard outputs.

Portability: Electronic chart products generated by ACE are browser-based using open, highly portable scalable vector graphics (SVG) and JavaScript that require minimal custom code to support a variety of browsers and mobile iOS?, Windows?, and Android? devices.

Simplicity: ACE ingests instrument flight procedure and supplementary data to automatically produce publication-quality charts. Linking to procedure design data eliminates errors in transcription or interpretation and dramatically simplifies the workflow and maintenance requirements.

          Geospatial Data Management

??The Company's Geospatial Data Management solutions support civil and military Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) by integrating a static Aeronautical Information System (AIS) relational database containing man-made obstacles, with a fully featured Geographic Information System (GIS) for the management and visualization of all national geographic data assets. The GIS includes multi-format vector and raster maps, orthorectified aerial photographs, and digital terrain data.

The Company employs a Windows?-based graphical user interface and open systems architecture to support multiple versions of a static AIS database, using ESRI? MapObjects and Oracle? as the embedded GIS toolkit and relational database, respectively.

Functionally, ?the Company's solutions integrate a data exchange module to provide built-in data import and export compatibility with a wide range of cartographic and aeronautical data standards that include DAFIF, DVOF, Aeronautical Radio Incorporated (ARINC) 424, aeronautical information exchange models (AIXM), DTED, DEM, CADRG, TIFF, and VPF.

Import and export mechanisms include extensible mark-up language (XML), delimited text files, SQL, and ODBC, allowing data ingest from widely available sources and legacy databases, and the electronic export of data in formats to other systems, without the need for manual intervention. Using configurable security privileges and geographically defined workspaces, these solutions enable division of responsibility for national data asset management among multiple data specialists, with a full audit trail capability that logs the time/date, user ID, and nature of every modification made to the datasets.
